• Save Money by Snacking

The secret to saving $39,000 and 10,900 hours over the course of your 30 year career is snacking. Studies show that eating small increments of food spaced evenly throughout the day is actually better for your health than three balanced meals. On top of the health benefits it saves you the money you would have spent on a hearty lunch brought from home, or the inevitable lunch out with co-workers when you forget to bring your lunch, not to mention the unhealthy run to the closest fast food restaurant if you are in a hurry. Although this initially seems like minimal savings, it surely can add up over time.

I know I am always tempted to go out to lunch when co-workers want to grab a “quick” bite. Although this is sometimes a nice treat it really begins to add up and takes up a lot of my time. At the end of the day I regret how that Panini made me feel, how much it cost me, and how I had to stay at work an extra hour instead of being at home with my family. All of this would have been avoided if I weren’t hungry when my co-workers came up with the idea of going out for lunch. When I consistently snack throughout the day I never feel down or have the need to go out for lunch. The $1 a day that I spend on a Balance bar and the 50 cents I spend on dried fruit satisfies me even more so than that Panini I could have had for $9. Not to mention the time and energy it would have cost me as well.

Now I’m not saying that you should skip out on breakfast or dinner because both of these meals are extremely important to the beginning and end of your day. Lunch, however, is never a meal that people eat at a specific time or a specified amount. This is why the secret to saving time and money at work is snacking.
